Sherry Walker: A true expert on parenting
Sherry Walker impressed me when I met her. She exuded quiet wisdom with a twinkle in her eye at age 75. I learned later that Sherry’s long list of credentials includes 35 years in private practice as a psychotherapist. She was a Clinical Instructor and Supervisor in the Creative Arts In Therapy Department at Hahnemann University. She served as an adjunct professor in the graduate division of Chestnut Hill College. Then she became a Senior Staff Therapist and Clinical Instructor at the Medical School of the University of Pennsylvania. Later, she taught in the Department of Psychology at Fort Lewis College and served as Child Development Specialist at The Child Development Center at Fort Lewis College. She remains a Clinical and Approved Supervisor Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). Furthermore, she’s raised happy, productive children to adulthood. Her parenting credentials inspire well-deserved trust.
I’m so glad Sherry’s parenting wisdom is now in a book so anyone can access it
Sherry’s book is down-to-earth and easy to read in spite of her resume! Sherry Walker offers a wealth of information on multiple aspects of child development – physical, emotional, psychological, and linguistic. She provides a roadmap to get to the heart of the inevitable conflicts. She empowers parents to communicate clearly and calmly during any situation. PARENTING: WHAT WORKS WHAT WON’T AND WHY includes many practical parenting suggestions for defining boundaries, setting behavioral limits, and solving problems. Sherry suggests age-appropriate activities and learning experiences for every stage, from birth to eighteen.
Stories from real life illustrate each piece of parenting advice
Sherry’s book reveals a lovely way of getting inside the head of a child. She explains what a situation looks and feels like to a three-year-old, or a 15-year-old. She shares an abundance of enlightening, real-life examples, with enough humor and tenderness to make the reading fun! This insightful book allows parents to gently navigate the unpredictable childrearing years. The book transforms the voyage of parenting into a smoother passage that is rewarding and enjoyable for both parent and child.
This little book about parenting has a lot to offer
If you sometimes wonder how to handle a situation with your child, Sherry offers advice that’s been tested over a long career guiding families. Everything she writes rests in solid research. Sherry enjoys the highest esteem in her small town of Durango, CO. I know this, because I live here, too, and hear from parents who benefit from her advice. I often refer to her when a child’s needs go beyond learning to read. This book packs into 172 pages a wealth of solid wisdom you can use today! So, I highly recommend PARENTING: WHAT WORKS WHAT WON’T AND WHY as the perfect gift for any parents of young children.
